Privacy Policy
This website collects very little. This page explains exactly what it collects, why, where it goes, and how to have it removed.
Last updated: July 22, 2026
We collect personal information only when you type it into a form on this site. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone for marketing.
Who we are
This site is operated by BoatLife Foundation, a NJ Nonprofit Corporation, based in Holmdel, New Jersey. Questions about this policy, or requests regarding your information, can be sent to info@boatlifefoundation.org.
What we collect
There are exactly two ways to give us personal information on this site, and both are voluntary.
- Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe, we collect the email address you enter. Nothing else is requested and nothing else is stored with it beyond the date and time of the subscription.
- Contact form. If you write to us, we collect your name, your email address, the subject line if you provide one, and the content of your message, along with the date and time it was received.
Both forms include a hidden field that is invisible to people and attractive to automated spam scripts. If that field is filled in, the submission is discarded. It is a spam check, not a tracking device.
Our servers also apply a short-lived rate limit to form submissions, which briefly holds a value derived from the network address of the request in memory. It is not written to disk, is not linked to your submission, and disappears within about a minute.
Why we collect it
- To reply to you. A contact message without a way to answer it is not useful to either of us.
- To send the newsletter you asked for, which is occasional updates on programs, partnerships, and volunteer opportunities.
- To keep automated spam out of our inbox.
We do not use your information for any other purpose. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Where it is stored
Form submissions are written to a file on the server that runs this website, which is controlled by BoatLife Foundation. They are not sent to a third party customer relationship system, marketing platform, or data broker. Access is limited to the people in our organization who need it to respond to you.
We keep submissions for as long as they are useful for the correspondence or the subscription they belong to, and we delete them when you ask us to.
Analytics
This site can be configured to load Google Analytics. It is enabled only when a measurement identifier is set in our environment configuration, and when it is not set, no analytics script loads at all.
When analytics is enabled, Google receives standard information about your visit, such as the pages you view, approximate location derived from your network address, and general details about your browser and device. We use it to understand which pages are read, not to identify individuals. That processing is governed by Google’s own privacy terms. You can block it with an analytics blocking extension or your browser’s tracking protection, and the site will work normally.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run advertising on this site.
The site stores one preference in your browser’s local storage: whether you have chosen the light or dark theme. It stays on your device, is never sent to us, and is there only so the site does not forget your choice between visits. Clearing your browser storage removes it.
If analytics is enabled as described above, Google Analytics may set its own cookies on your device.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information through this site, write to us and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe at any time. Reply to any newsletter, or email us, and we will remove your address.
- Ask what we hold. Email us and we will tell you what is associated with your address.
- Ask us to correct or delete it. We will do so unless we are legally required to keep a record, and we will tell you if that is the case.
Send any of these requests to info@boatlifefoundation.org from the address concerned, or tell us which address to look up. We aim to respond within 30 days.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, and submissions are stored on systems we control with access limited to our team. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. Please do not send sensitive personal information, such as financial account details or government identifiers, through the contact form.
Links to other sites
Where we link to another organization, that site has its own privacy practices and we are not responsible for them.
Changes to this policy
If we add a feature that changes what we collect, for example an email provider or a donation processor, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be described in the newsletter.
